2026 Summer Reading Program

The 2026 Summer Reading Program runs Monday, June 29 to August 7 and the theme, Unearth a Story, encourages kids to learn about dinosaurs and pre-historic times.

Children and their families can register any time at the youth desk and will have the opportunity to spin a wheel, earn weekly prizes, enter into our weekly raffle, and place stickers on our giant dinosaur. Our weekly raffle prizes include a Lego set, slip n’ slide, scooter, and more! We offer the following programs:

  • Dinosaur themed free play evenings on Monday June 29, July 13, and July 27
  • Dinosaur story times every Friday at 10:30AM
  • Dinosaur movies every Wednesday at 10:30AM
  • Free lunch for kids 0-18 every week day from Monday to Friday from 11:30AM to 12:30PM
  • Unique weekly take & make crafts as well as board games, scavenger hunts, and craft supplies for anytime use

We are excited to announce our Library Learning Tech Station, which features three Playaway Launchpads that have pre-loaded educational activities. It will be available for use this summer and beyond. The project was funded in part by the Foundation for Southern Tier Libraries.

Additionally, we have three special events going on in our auditorium for children and families throughout the summer. We will have Cris Johnson’s Dino Show on July 2 at 3:00PM, which gives guests a chance to handle fossil replicas and interact with realistic baby dinosaurs.

The Hawk Creek Nature Center will host an educational program on Rare & Vanishing Species on July 23 at 3:00PM, including three animal guests and centering on the importance of conservation. The library extends its appreciation to the Schumann Foundation Grant for funding the program, as well as for funding our soon-to-debut nature kits, which will be available for checkout. The kits will include center on topics such as owls, bird exploration, animal tracking, insects, and stream and pond discovery.

We will conclude our six-week summer reading program with a Dinosaur Digs adventure program on August 7th at 4:00PM and an end-of-summer party will occur the following day, August 8th at 11:00AM.
