- Basic Computer Fix – If there is a problem with a program or the computer is not operating properly, the first thing one should do is restart the computer. There is a difference between restarting and shutting down the computer with the Windows 10 operating system. A shut down does not fully reset the computer. A restart shuts down fully before it restarts. It is a best practice to restart the computer every few weeks to keep it in good working condition.
- Do you need an antivirus with Windows 10? – All computers should have an antivirus program installed. Windows 10 comes with an antivirus program called Windows Defender. If you add another antivirus program, Windows Defender remains active in the background and lets the other antivirus take over. If the other antivirus program is uninstalled, Windows Defender takes over the antivirus duties.
- Do you have trouble printing a PDF file? – The default setting for opening a PDF file allows it to open in the browser you are using. Sometimes, this does not print properly. You can download the file and open it with a program that is made to open PDF files. The most popular program for this is Adobe Reader which is free to install. There are a few settings that may need to be adjusted, but this should print properly in most instances.
- Connect your email account to a cell phone or second email address. – In case you forget your password for your email account, you should link it to your cell phone or a second email account. A text message with a code will be sent to access your email and change the password. Recently when trying to set up a gmail address, it is necessary to link it to a phone that can receive text messages. In some cases, it is almost impossible to recover an email address without a cell phone or second email address.
